Michael Gaither list: Grass Valley and KVMR this weekend / newpodcast interview

Talk about one extreme to the other: Last weekend I helped judge a karaoke contest - "American Idol"-style at the Boardwalk Bowl in Santa Cruz.

(And if you're wondering, OF COURSE we heard "Just a Gigolo" and "Bohemian Rhapsody", which I suspect are karaoke staples, along with "Cherry Pie" - ironically, a hair band song which was sung by a guy with no hair - this was Santa Cruz, remember.)

The night was actually a lot more fun than you might think it would be. Glad I was asked to tag along.

And this weekend, I'm driving north to play a few solo things. To be honest, I've always just wanted to see what rain looks like in Grass Valley. I thought I'd work a few shows around that to make it look legit. Here's where I'll be:

*** Friday 2/22, 5:30 - 6:30 pm ***

Briar-Patch Co-op, Grass Valley CA

*** Saturday 2/23, 2:30 pm ***

KVMR 89.5 FM, Nevada City CA

Kevin Odell (from The Acoustic Barn) and I are guests on "Rockin' and Stompin'" with Wesley Robertson. Tune in locally or listen in on the web at www.kvmr.org.

*** Saturday 2/23, 7:30 pm ***

The Acoustic Barn, Newcastle CA

I'm opening for Rick Di Dia and Aireene Espiritu, a very cool bluesy duo from the bay area. Rick and Aireene also happen to be the guests on the latest episodes of my "Songs and Stories" podcast:

I'm pretty sure this show is sold out, but you can check with Kevin

(www.kodell@shra.org) for info.

Next month, me and the band will be back on KPIG again (Sunday 3/16) are playing another night at the East Village Coffee Lounge (3/22).

Also, my next podcast will be a two-part interview with local favorite Dayan Kai. I'll send an update when I have that together.

Many thanks,

- Michael Gaither

P.S. If you're just that curious, here are the karaoke results:
